The city of Houston is named after Sam Houston, one of the key figures in the creation of the Texas that we know today. During the late 1800s, Houston was a key location in the export of cotton, serving as a commercial and railroad hub, and World War II brought about something of an economic boost tothe city.Today, the Houston area is widely known as the home of the NASA Space Center and a bevy of giant corporations.
