League City

About a half-hour’s drive from Houston going to the southeast is League City, which occupies portions of two counties, Galveston County and Harris County. Initially a farming community when it was established during the 1800s, the area went through several name changes, including Butler’s Ranch and Clear Creek, until League City was chosen as the final name. Today, League City offers an exceptional quality of life in the Bay Area, with a prosperous economy, excellent education and medical facilities, a low crime rate, and numerous recreational opportunities.

Things to Do

The areas between Coryell Street and East Main Street contain numerous historic homes and buildings that were built during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Among the attractions are the G. H. & H. Railroad Section House, which now serves as offices for the League City Parks and Recreation Department; The Butler Building, a renovated brick building with professional offices; the site of the little green schoolhouse for West Bay Common School No. 13, which is now the West Bay Common School Children’s Museum; and the Walter Hall Home, now known as the Butler Longhorn Museum.

League City has numerous parks where one can enjoy a leisurely walk and pass the time enjoying the scenic, relaxing views or go bird watching. League Park, Helen’s Garden, and Walter Hall Park are also where you can find majestic, century-old oak trees that have been officially registered as historic oaks.

The South Shore Harbour Resort & Spa offers many accommodations and amenities, including dining facilities, a swimming pool, fitness center, conference venues, and marina. A few minutes drive to the south is the South Shore Harbour Country Club, with its challenging 27-hole private golf course.
